Default Muffler "packing"

A lot of the after market mufflers advertise that they rely on "packing" to control noise. In the good old days "glass" pack mufflers were cheap, sounded good, but burned out quick. Does anyone make decent mufflers with metal baffling? Or, I am living in the past and they have some modern miracle packing that is immune from the high heat generated by current Harley's?

Go to the fuel moto forum on this site and ask Jamie about their "pillow pack".

Mufflers I've seen that are really quiet are usually packed but I've also taken some quiet mufflers apart to find there was no packing at all around the baffle, guess I was thinkin I could make them louder. They made me feel like a fool so I just took a long drill bit and drilled a hole in the center for few more db's. On the packing, sooner or later you could possible have to repack a muffler but it will be some time if ever at all.

The Fuel Moto Jackpots with standard baffles use a solid steel packing, like a thick fabric, and the quiet baffle option uses Silent Sport material. I didn't use the standard baffles long before changing to the quiet baffles, but it looks like the packing would last forever. I do know the Silent Sport material is durable since I ran it in my old Jackpots for over a year without any change, and Fuel Moto offers a lifetime warranty on it. I assume the same warranty applies for the steel material in the standard baffles.

The first mufflers I had on this bike were Rush and that material burned out after less than a year.
