Default Pinging sound

Hey Guys,

I have recently been getting sound from the cylinders like only when you really hammer on it like a low octane pining sound. I will next time make sure I use HIGH test which I'm pretty sure I did but I'll check twice. What do you guys think?

Bad / Cheap Gas, Timing is off? do you have a Tuner on the bike...I would get it from 3500-4500 at WOT when it was really hot...Tuner tweaked the timing in the PCIII and it went away...

Many things can cause it and most guys who can give a better answer than my guess will need to know the build, and the Tuner on the bike to give some advise.

sometimes its poor fuel (winter blend)but 07 and up are tuned very lean from the factory a tuning aid (wich is best is for another thread) took care of the issue for,if it gets worse in the summer heat with good fuel a tune is in your future.

If you're lucky, its just one tank of bad gas. However, with all the methane now in gas pinging is common. If you get a fuel management system, be sure to get one that adjusts timing - not just fuel. You might be able to retard the timing to eliminate it. Short term - a bottle of octane booster will work. Follow directions on the bottle.

Good suggestions already given. I believe it is fuel detonating too early in the stroke. Per my mechanic and my experience that can be caused by poor fuel, timing a bit off, not enough fuel in the map.

Good luck!

Ok sounds good guys I'm going to try some octane boost to start out with. And hopefully thats all it is. I really wanted to wait at least a season to do anything to the motor.

Pinging is not just an irritating sound. It is the sound of your engine destroying itself. Do whatever you must do to stop it ASAP.
