Default What's this "V" in my throttle switch housing?

I'm replacing the stock switch housings, etc. on my 06 R K Classic. Inside the throttle switch housing there is a small v shaped copper/brass shaped piece of metal. Does anyone know what it is, and where does it go?

It goes between the switch housing and the brake light switch to hold the switch in place.

If you have cruise control then that's what hold your cruise switch cut off for front brake.

This is exactly what it is. A wedge to hold the stoplight switch in place.

Ah, nope! There is no cruise switch cut off for the front brake. The cruise cut off is triggered by the brake light circuit.

Here's a diagram of where the copper/brass wedge goes.

Thanks everyone for the quick answers. With your information it was pretty simple to understand it's place and purpose. I'm new to bike mechanics and this has been my first major undertaking. Having a resource like H.D. Forums with helpful members gives me the backup I need when diving into a new challenge. Thanks again, springs here, lets ride!

it was missing from my 09 when purchased new and eventually my brake light was staying on all the time. i inserted a piece of plastic zip tie to make a wedge to prevent the switch from moving again.
