Hey guys
I'm posting this for two of my friends. They both but o6 roadkings and the dealer did free big bores to make room for 07's. Stock cams and heads with S\E slip ons. Both of them noticed that at night when they were riding the rear pipe was glowing red at the head. So they called the dealer who said harleys down load is to lean and the only fix is a dfo or pcIII. They did make sure that their bikes had the updated injectors. Any ideas would be great.
Thanks Rick
Sounds like they already have the answer, the dealer download is all they can do, unless you go with harleys race tuner which is basicly a PCIII that they tune to your bike using a dyno or just trail ans error riding. Or the best solution would be to go to the PCIII and then have it maped at a dynojet tuner.
I would check to see what ECM download was installed on the bike. I suspect that the "street legal" was applied when the dealer should have installed the "race only" cartridge (required with SEII muffs). I had a similar problem myself. When I purchased my '06 FLSTCI, there was no "race" cartridge available, only the "street legal" download. To compensate, the dealer used the 1550 stage 1 download instead of the 1450 stage 1 download. When I had the 25 degree injectors installed (by a different dealer), I insisted that the 1450 stage 1 "race" cartridge be installed. Bike runs much smoother and much cooler.
Next purchase is the SERT and dynotune!

The old cartridge downloads are gone, the downloads are done just like the PCIII's now, they come straght from Harley off their dealer web network. And it might not help those guys anyway as he said they had the 1550 kits installed on the bikes.
New to the EFI Harley circles, but not new to big HP tuning
High EGT and glowing pipes are almost always due to late ignition timing (yes extreme lean and rich can both raise EGT, but to get the pipe glowing, it usually takes a late firing plug)
I am playing catch up learning about the different tuners, but it sounds to me like a combination of too much fuel and too late of timing. Needless to say, there is some HP left on the table to boot
Could be but based on the 06's running right at lean from the factory and doing the mods, I would go with too lean. Need a fuel manager and a good map. That will fix it, plus you will squeeze out some more HP and Torque.
