Default Orange Wire

96 RK On the acc. switch there is a 4 pin connector behind the headlight with two orange wires coming from the battery area. One hot all the time one hot with the switch on. I am wondering where the switched wire goes? I am wanting to wire a cig lighter to that switch to run a GPS. Thinking of just splicing in to the wire under the headlight. Looking for opinions.

Looking at my SM for the 1998 model (I will assume that they are the same) The switched wire goes to the "P&A Accessory Connector". I guess that is the Tour Pack connector? From the drawings they are the only orange wires in the main harness. It does starte "+12VDC switched by 'accessory switch'".

If that is the case I should have no problem cutting the wire behind the headlight and wiring up to a cig lighter. Thanks for the reply.

Rather than cutting it, why don't you pigtail into it instead. That way you will still have the connection terminated where it is supposed to. And in the off chance that something else is attached to that it won't affect it, as there would still be adequate voltage/ current to supply it.

I believe you can get a cigarette lighter that already has a connector so it just plugs in. I would avoid cutting and splicing if possible. I would even consider hardwiring a different type of connector dedicated to the gps instead of a cigerette lighter.
