Congrats on the new promotion and I second the opinion that you shouldn't stop riding to work because of it. I rode to work almost everyday that wasnt raining last summer. I just through my jacket in my t-bag along with my shoes and tie and through them on in the parking garage. The only thing I would say is to always make sure you have raingear because suits ruined by a ride home in the rain are not cheap nor fun to replace, don't ask me how I know this.

LOL - Really! I changed from a suit about 12 years back when I left Chicago and never intend to return. It now is black dockers and black shirts 5 days a week and no one to say different. I took a fairly good cut to do so, but have no regrets and never had the urge to go back.

I commuted about 40 miles each way for a year and a half and would throw the laptop, tie and suit coat in the tour pak, the shoes would go in one of the saddle bags and I was good to go. Made the job much more bearable after the ride.

I use to have to wear a suit at work. I wore the suit pants but leaf a matching dress jacket at work. That way I could wear my leather jacket to work.

+1 on the riding suit. Don't let your work attire get in the way of riding.

Congrats and I am hoping for the very same thing. Applied for a position within my agency now. I work for the state of FL. I got the call for the interview and while I was waiting, chit chatting with the receptionist come to find out they at last count had over 300 applications for the position. Do what? Yes siree Bob lol... I was 1 of 20 total interviews and there are two positions. Left the interview feeling very good about it and that was last Wed. So now I'm in the hurry up and wait mode lol. However, if I'm so fortunate I too will be trading in my combat boots for a suit and tie. However, I do have a tour pak ;-)

If you can get away with a sport coat and slacks, leave a blue blazer at work and everything else coordinates with the blazer in case you need to wear it. Oversuits are a +1 as well.
