I am really debating installing my new exhaust myself and then trailering the bike to the dealer to let them do the dyno work. Here's my deal. I have an '03 Ultra, all stock engine/exhaust. Looking at V&H or Rinehart TD's. I feel comfortable removing the stock and installing the new exhaust (changed exhaust on my old Honda, never had any probs). The dealer is trying to get me to buy a race tuner (said they don't like power commanders cause they are subject to "moisture and vibration"). Race tuner is about $200 more than power commander. What say y'all? Are they just trying to sell me something I don't need? Can I get the power commander from someone else (Fuel Moto) and install it myself and will it come mapped for my bike from them? Does the bike need to be Dyno'd? What air cleaner should I run?
Do it all yourself, and save some cash... FYI, an HD dealer would rather sell you an OEM HD product...
get the Power Commander from fuelmoto already programmed for your bike's setup. You can always dyno later for a custom map, if you feel it's necessary.

Call Fuelmoto & get advice from them, they probably have package already set-up for your bike, you can get the exhaust from them or get it yourself, as long as you buy the tuner from them they install the tune for you. You really shouldn't need a tune for pipes & A/C, sounds like the dealer is trying to be a "HOG".
wow harley sure is pushing the race tuner/dyno with pipes and ac alot.. i feel bad for the guys that dont know any better. almost all harley dealers that dyno dont have guys that know how to tune it correctly.. they just make a pull and give the buyer a sheet saying here it is dyno tuned.... what a joke. pout the pipes and ac on your self and get you an auto tune device.. screw harley serv dept bunch of dam morons...
If your just changing your exhaust (slip-on's) you don't need a map at all, and it's an easy swap. If you change the a/c then you need to (should) remap.
Exhaust is easy to install. Do it yourself and save some cash. Just follow the instructions step by step and you will be fine. Purchase the Power Commander from Fuel Moto as others have said, they should have a map that is ready to go for your application - easy plug and play install and no dyno needed. Install the A/C and you got the full Stage I in one shot.
