Default 16" Apes?

Hey everyone, I just have a quick question. I have a 2001 RK that a previous owner installed what looks like 12" mini apes on. They're nice and have sharp looking braided cables and everything. However, I have been playing with the idea of putting 16" chubby apes on. I installed 16"s on my old Ironhead Sporty and helped a buddy put a set on his Evo Heritage.

I want to put a set on my bike, however it's the same old story... Gotta do it on a tight budget. I'm getting married this Fall and that is taking the majority of my budget.

Any idea if the cables from the 12"s would work for the 16"s? I would just go measure it, but it's still in storage 200 miles away for another few weeks. (ND spring has barely started). If they wont, any suggestions on good deals for cables? Thanks in advance.

Not likely.

+4 inches of play would be pretty obvious with 12s.

I love mine too!
I got them for $200 with Chromite II cables (+6) included.
I just asked around here & there & one day, lucked up in a Harley dealership.
The parts manager had them for sale off his own bike.
They're Wild 1s - 16".

The only problem with that is that there isn't a whole lot of bike shops around here that would be into that... I'll probably just throw the 12" setup on eBay after I get the 16"s. Anybody have the correct measurements on cables?

I like the looks of both of your bikes with the apes! And yeah, I figured an extra 4" of play would be pretty evident... I just thought that since these are aftermarket cables and it looks like every cable I see is +6" over stock that there might have been a possibility.

Any suggestions on where to find any good deals? Thanks again!

I put mine on a few weeks ago. I called WO before I ordered them. They suggested +6 so that is what I had a friend order for me as he is a drag specialties dealer (friendly prices). I got the Chromite II and they are NICE! I think the DR. VTWIN is a forum sponser. Give him a try....or there are others.
