Anthony, I had been riding off and on for 22 years and my wife had been on a bike with me twice for a total of about 50 miles. Said riding was not for her. Just wasn't interested. I always owned old shovels. My last bike, the one she actually rode was a 72 FLH. So last year, I told her I was buying a new bike and her reaction was "fine, go ahead but I'M NOT RIDING IT EITHER". Oh well... I really wanted an EG so that's what I bought. When she saw it for the 1st time she said, "well, maybe I'll ride it... occasionally". As for mods? She really complained at the cost of the stage 1 and sert. And I mean LOUDLY! But she started riding with constantly. It wasn't long before we were riding at "her" suggestion. Then came a 2500 mile tour of the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Great Smokey Mountains... when I mentioned after that trip that I'd like to do a 95" conversion with heads, cams, etc. her reation was "Good, more POWER!" She LOVES to ride now. Don't worry about the mods... I never thought my wife would spend ANY time on a bike with me. It was always a dream that I never thought would come true. Get the Ultra.

If I were to play the perfect scenario, that would be it.

It's not really the mods that's holding me back. I've been wanting the Ultra, but really haven't jumped in because I feel the bike isn't made for local / solo rides. As soon as my wife gave me idea that she wouldn't mind being a passenger, the Ultra came to play again. I don't believe her.

I might rent an Ultra for a weekend and just see what happens from there.

I wondered the same thing.

She says that the RK gives her more of an open / exposed feeling. Whereas the Ultra gives her a "sitting IN the bike" feel. She likes the tunes in the back seat, and feels safer with the fairing. (can't figure that one).

I haven't quite figured out this absolute need for accessories yet but if his wife is so accommodating I don't think I would want him to violate her trust.

Heck, it's got to be something real special to be able to own one of these great machines but to have two of them in the garage is something else
.
