Default Info

Any info would be great. but I have an 06 ultra classic and in stock form found that it was tuned on the rich side from the factory. I have since added the stage one screaming eagle air cleaner kit and pipes without any baffels.......I have checked every couple of hundered milels and my plugs show perfect carmel or tan color. My dealership swears that I need to remap. But my plugs show good tune. So what gives? All I know are sport bikes but my plugs on any bike would be in the ballpark of good tune no matter what you ride. I think they are just trying to get an extra 140 $ out of me for remap.

You need to remap whenever you change the way your motor breaths.

$140 now or THOUSANDS for a new motor when it burns down! A/C and Pipes require the remap! Stock map is set for restrictive pipes and A/C. Now that ur motor is breathing...... sucking and expelling more air you need to add more fuel. I would get an EFI controller vs the download but thats me. Fuelpak, PCIII or PCV etc. Lots of info on here about them. Good luck!

I understand all that but I'm showing no symptoms of running to lean. Plugs show good tune and operating temp is what it was before ...

Pay now or pay later, only you can make that decision. If I were you, I'd get a Power Commander III from Fuel Moto and they'll GIVE you a map to match your setup. Install PC, hook up a laptop and load the map and done. It is very easy and your not looking at spending that much more than the $140. But as everyone else has said, when ya make those kind of changes you MUST remap.

Fuelmoto, site sponsor, has a tuner for a some over $200. It's is there own power commander. Call them, tell them what you have, and the fuel management will be set by them and all you have to do is plug and play. The respnse of your throttle alone worth the price. Not to say assuring you have the right mixture.
Check out any questions you may have on quality and the professionalism of Fuelmoto throughout this forum.

Tuned rich from the factory? How would that be. They tune them lean from the factory to meet EPA guidelines. Adding AC and pipes would make leaner. Even if the plugs look OK, I would suggest a tuner to get the best performance from the bike. Fuel Moto is great - cant go wrong there.

If you really think all is well, ride it. I think maybe I'd consider having someone dyno it and see what the AFR's really are before going too far though.

Yes, Twin Cams are notorious for running lean and you've just made it even leaner, get a remap. BTW, I personally don't recommend removing the baffles because your motor needs that back pressure and without it you will eventually burn your exhaust valves not to mention the loss of low and mid range power. That being said, it's your bike and you can do whatever you want.

I would think that you will be fine, before all this dyno blah blah blah came about thousand upon thousands of very expensive and very high horsepower engines were tuned that way. Did you buy the bike new or used? Is there a tuning device added , if so this may the reason that it runs well now. As you so correctly surmised a good running engine will appear like you have described, any engine no matter the make or style.
