Default Splash cover

Have 2009 SG with Alpine aftermarket HU. I have the RG pre 96 splash cover from Biketronics and used single sided sticky black rubber tape and put about 6 laps around it to make it fit water tight.

Works amazingly, gotta work it in place but once in ....No water getting in there.

Covers are great for keeping water out, and wrapping the radio may seem like a good idea, but consider this. Most electronic equipment used in a motorcycle or marine application that experience a failure due to liquid damage are not damaged by "water intrusion" but rather condensation. Any radio with a CD slot, aux port, card slot, etc by their very design cannot be completely sealed, and therefor, cannot be waterproof, only water resistant. Condensation will get into these radios (stock or aftermarket). It is the measures taken by the manufacture to deal with this once it happens that will prevent damage. Air flow is needed to remove condensation before damage can be done. Wrapping a radio or putting a cover over the faceplate actually reduces airflow and accelerates the damage caused by condensation. The cover should be open as often as possible, and the radio should never be wrapped.

sa315b you are incorrect, biketronics splash covers work on all radios, my friends use them on stock radios, i have a sony installed with hawg wired install kit and it works fine , their splash cover fits to the opening not the radio or install kit so it will work on any as long as you have the splash cover for your particular model bike

Biketronics does not recommend to use the cover going down the highway because it can fall off. Really it is just made to cover the radio for when you are washing the bike.

That was a cut and paste quote from their web page.

So, I've wondered....do these covers snap on and off, or do they somehow hard mount and have something like a flip-up door to allow access?
I have also seen posts where guys say they used a RG cover as opposed to a SG one. WHat are the differences?

Thanks

harley0711 I don't care what biketronics web page states ,they say that so you will buy from them, i know at least 4 people running them on stock radios and 6 with hawg wired install kits, AGAIN they fit the opening not the radio or install kit, if you had one you would know that, they will fit any head unit or install kit as long as you have the correct one for your bike, why do you assume I would lie when I tell you I an using one, if you want I'd be happy to take a picture for you with my hawg wired system

OUCH - never called you a Lier -- I was only stating what the web site stated... I have bought things in the pasts for my bike and called to say they did not work and was told - It says on the page it would not work on a certin bike... If you say they work, then thats all is needed.

It has also been stated in this post that this cover is only intended to be put on when the bike is washed and not intended to be used when the bike is ridden?? What have you found? IF it is only intended for when the bike is stopped - then it kinda defeats the purpose of proction when riding in the rain..
