Default Oil Leaking

I am a Owner of a 02' Road King Classic, this is also my first HD. I was wondering how common it is that I have a small Oil Leak from the primary? Can some one give me some insight and how much will it cost to get it fixed?

No its not! Harleys dont leak anymore, unless there is a problem. Yours will cost around 38.00 to fix if you do it yourself, A new primary gasket and 1 quart of primary lube and takes about 30-45 minutes to replace the primary gasket, no big deal, have you checked the tightness of the primary bolts? If you find them loose, tighten and see if leak stops, if so take one screw out at a time and apply blue lock tight and replace

Exactly right - Twin Cams don't leak, thank god (and metalurgy).

I find it funny that we're so worried about small oil leaks these days when for most of the last century, you could tell where a Harley had been by following the oil trail...

Where is it leaking from around the primary? If it is from the drain plug, fix it the next fluid change. If it is around the gasket, try the suggestions already made about tightening screws.

if it's the plug area, the O'ring on the drain plug is torn. replace the O'ring. Otherwise check the primary bolts or replace the primary gasket.

You should check the shift shaft seal as well. That will drip and appear to be from the primary. I had to have it done last year and it was about $300.00. The price is high as they must remove both the outer and inner primary. Take a flashlight and follow the shift linkage back to where it enters the tranny. Hope it's dry, the primary gasket is a lot cheaper.

I have a wet leak, not dripping just gets the road grime build up and it is coming from where the stator wires go through the forward casing. Was in the primary earlier this year and tried some hi temp RTV and it slowed it down but did not do away with it. There is not a seal/oring for this location per the stealer?

Default RE: Primary Leak - Stator Grommet

I have the same issue with my 2005 Road King. When the engine's running there is a small leak of primary fliuid oozing through where the two stator wires pass through a grommet on the primary. Not a huge leak, but the fluid works it's way down the front of the engine and along the bottom etc...just gets to be a mess after a while, plus it just shouldn't leak like that!! Also, since there's no dipstickto check the level of the primaryI'm never sure if it's leaking a lot or a little...the leak stops when I shut the bike off. Anyone have any suggestions? Did the high temp silicone solution work foranyone?I'm thinking if I can work the grommet back a little and put a bead ofsiliconearound the hole itmight be OK.
