Default 110

I recently had the pleasure of riding with some guys who spent a pile of cash on their rides ,,one guy was well over 8000 into his engine ,,well long story short my Street Glide ,stock except rinehart slipons and big sucker a/c and stage 1 and tuner ,and SE clutch spring can kick their butt i pull away on take off and get way better fuel mileage. Question is did i just get a good bike outta the bunch or did they use the wrong combo's of cams and fuel and pistons ,or what i don't see the difference? I'd like to think i can spend and get way more these guys got nothin,, . I've been told by one guy he did it to pull his trailer but he gets worse mileage than i do and on hills i pull away on him (i mean mountain hills not grades ) so did i get lucky or did they waste money

Friend of mine did the SE 110 on his King. Stock exhaust and no tune. He isnt getting good gas mileage and I think I can take him as well with a Stage 1, and Rinehart TD's.

I guess I just wondered why go half way with the motor and not let it breathe or tune it. I am sure my local tuner can get my motor running a hell of a lot better just with a tune. It's on my to do list for this year, but my bike runs great and eats miles. That's what I bought it for. Sold my V-Rod for the Street Glide so I have limited expectations on acceleration.

Their builds are screwed. Too many people figure it's all about displacement and that's it. Don't get me wrong, displacement is important but it's not the only factor. I haven't got into the engine on my SG yet, probably next winter. I have a buddy at work and his 103" Road King build absolutely kills any CVO and puts out much better numbers than alot of 110" and 113" bikes. It's a total build, cams, injectors, larger throttle body, zippers a/c, head work by baisley, D&D 2-1, etc etc. You have to plan it out and get components that compliment each other.

^This^

Have a mild 98" build on my RK. Screaming Eagle tastes just like chicken..... Love looking in the mirror at a guy on his 30k CVO.....
I might swap out the stock throttle body and bolt in cam next winter for something a little more agresssive.

It's always about having the right combination and the proper tune.Too many do the upgrades but never fully take advantage of it.

....or never get the thing set up properly on a dyno.

We can all become armchair experts and draw up a shopping list of engine goodies, but it takes skill and judgement to put the right mix of parts together and get the most out of them. Not many of us amateurs can do that!

This is pretty much why I'm keeping my motor stock. Too many experts out there, with too many different opinions.

I bought a cruiser, so I guess I'm satisfied. I've never been left behind yet. lol

.....................and I seldom, if ever, crank it to a wide open throttle. I'm 55 years old, where the hell am I going that I need to be in such a big hurry? If my buds want to cruise down the highway at 70, I'm in. If they want to cruise at 80, I'm in. Hell I've even snuck in behind cars doing 90 and cruised right along with them (hoping they get the speeding ticket, if you know what I mean). If I need to pass extremely fast, I drop down to 3rd gear.

Everybody around here that I know that has done motor work, takes it back in and does more motor work. They ain't ever happy.
