After working on this all winter it is finally done. Started with a HF trailer (which if I had this to do over I would have never used it.) The frame is narrowed and shortened. I fiber glassed in the carrier and formed a frame inside the lid to attach gas shocks. The lid is held shut with a set of tour pack latches and also has a set of locks for security. I also fabbed the spoiler on the back with a brake light in it. All lights are leds. For the trailer lights I bought a tourpack light bar, split it in the middle and added a few inches in it to fit the trailer.
Underneath I used single leaf springs from a golf cart and switched to shackles on the rear of the spring. Topped this off with a set of shocks. Then added the wheels which then required changing the studs as they were metric. So a word of caution for those of you using a HF trailer the bearings, seals and lug nuts are all metric.
On the front I painted up a cooler, nothing too big but will hold a 12 pack and ice. The cooler also has tour pack latches to keep the lid shut and continue on with the theme.
Pulls great and with the new suspension I don't hear the spring rattle that was there before.
Very nice job, I really like the way you carried the tour pak style lights thru. Only question I have is the FAT tires, most trailers I have seen have thinner ones.
I did try the stock 8 inch narrow tires it came with but the rims just didn't work for me. I went with the wider mag wheel and tire and really didn't notice any difference in the trailing.
Great job! Was out to lunch yesterday in the middle of a long ride and the gf asked how we'd ever pack nuff for at least a week on the bike and mentioned trailers. ****, hope she doesn't see this thread. Told her if it don't fit, well you know the rest.
Looks great. I have a trailer similar in style to yours that uses a fiberglass top with gas shocks. The struts are no longer strong enough and I am having difficulties sourcing replacements. Most struts are for auto hoods and are too heavy duty for this application. My old struts have no information on them. All I know is that the strut is 12 inches long and 20 inches fully extended and is about 3/4 inch in diameter. I'm having no success sourcing a replacement so was wondering if you can offer any advice. If you prefer PM at rctucker09@live.com
