Question ABS Good or Better

Hi,
Recently having chopped in my RK custom for a new SG I had the option of a 2010 model with ABS or saving Ł2000 and choosing a non ABS model (there were only two of these available).
My thoughts were that I wouldnt miss what I never had so hung on to the saving.
I guess it begins to bug me since I only hear good things from friends who are now riding the bikes with ABS....
Cheers

I wouldn't have bought my Ultra without ABS. To me it's a must but to each his own.
By the way, 2,000 GBP is a lot of money for ABS. Are you sure it's the price for the option over there? It's around $850 here.

Ł2000 extra for ABS? At that cost I think I'd pass. I ordered ABS on my 09 partly because it was only $800 and I figure I'd get most of that back on re-sale. (But I like this motorcycle a lot so re-sale is not even a thought at this point)

That was the difference (roughly) in price between a new model with or without....yeah a lot of cash.
I dont know that it can be fitted retrospectively but like most things I guess it can....

No it cannot. It's a factory install and it's not available as an aftermarket add-on.

I have done 50k on a bike with ABS and frankly don't miss it now I have sold it on. If you ride all year round and in bad weather it might be a good idea, but from what I have read Harley's system leaves a lot to be desired. I don't have any new bikes planned at present but would not choose a bike because it has ABS. IMHO you did the right thing!

I purchased a new 2010 StreetGlide and ABS was a "must have". I have put about 600 miles on it over the last two weeks. The ABS brakes STOP! Having ridden my 1999 FXR2 for over 60K miles, I always thought the brakes were a little "mushy" so maybe I am/was especially sensititive to this option. I am convinced the ABS was well worth the extra money. I havent had to really hit them hard yet in a panic stop and I hope I never do but I have peace of mind there will be no brake failure.

If you think your 2010 stops and has good brake feel, you should ride a non-abs street glide. Way better brake feel.

If I had known the difference before buying my SG I may have opted to go without.

I don't know, after the new download, I really like my brakes and I don't understand how they could be worse than the brakes on my 02. In fact, they are a lot better. A friend told me he just read a comparison where the Harley ABS was much better than the BMW ABS.

If you don't want to pay the extra money, I can understand that. But I don't think anyone can say that the nonABS brakes are better than the ABS. Harley has a good braking system.
