Drop-In Lowering kit

Ordered 12" 440's today and a drop-in lowering kit.. Wanting to lower the bike an inch with the drop in kit, for those of you who have done this what did you cut the spacer to?

I started at 2" but it dropped too much and I would bottom out too much. Now I have had it cut at 1" for the past year.
