Default Any Help Appreciated

Well.. in Asheville NC (about 230 miles from home).. just came in from around a 100 mile ride on my 03 Road King (EFI).. check engine light is on and idles high continuously (does not reduce idle after a few seconds.. stays high).. luckily, light came on about 1 mile from hotel...

This is a new bike for me and I'm the "anti-wrench".. was just serviced though by a person that has done all my Harley's ... very reputable..

Any thoughts?

Anybody have the electrical diagnostics manual for an '03....

I got him to where he can pull the codes, but of course, the codes and procedure don't match what's in my 09 electrical book.

He should be posting the codes soon...check engine light is staying on.

Greatly appreciate help Tony... Tony had me turn switch to ignition while holding in odometer reset... not sure if mine produced valid codes... I couldn't reset (or.. maybe was reseting and didn't realize it)... original code and following after short odo reset pushes:

= Invoking engine diagnostics on a < 2003 Harley =

To activate the diagnostic feature of the Check Engine Lamp, proceed as follows:

1)Turn the Ignition/Light Key Switch to IGNITION for three seconds (one second pause after the fuel pump stops running), and then turn switch back to the OFF (FLHTC/U-I, FLTR-I) or LOCK (FLHR/C-I) position for three seconds.

2)Repeat the instructions under step 1. above

3)Turn the Ignition/Light Key Switch to IGNITION and wait approximately eight seconds for the Check Engine Lamp to start flashing.

4)All trouble codes are sent out as a series of flashes. To retrieve the first digit of the trouble code simply observe the number of times the lamp flashes. The lamp will then flash one or more times to indicate the first digit of the trouble code. The length of time the lamp is illuminated and the length of time in which it is off are each about 0.5 second in duration. The second digit follows: following the transmission of the first digit, there is a 1.2 second pause in which the lamp is off. The lamp will then flash one or more times to indicate the second digit of the trouble code. Count the number of times the lamp flashes to retrieve the second digit.

5)If more than one trouble code is sent: following transmission of the second digit of the first code, there is a 3 second pause in which the lamp is off. Once all codes have been sent, the data string is repeated.
EFI Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC) and Fault Conditions

There are two types of diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), current and historic. The Check Engine Lamp will not indicate the existence of historic trouble codes.

So... went through the instructions several times w/ same results each time...
Once I got to step 3, the check engine light started as "on" for about 3 seconds, then went off.. after about 5 more seconds, it came on solid for approx 5 seconds, and then went off... never flashed.

Tony.. you have done more than enough already, Brother... thanks for all your help! I just wrote a note to Parkway HD (15 miles away).. I have HD Towing service.. "if" they can work on it tomorrow, I will have it towed there.. if not, will have to tow it back to Raleigh as I have to go to work on Monday (sigh)....

Their website says they open at 9:00. I'd be there with the bike just before they open. They should at least be able to tell you what the codes are and if it's safe to ride home.
