How'd it work out? I had the 9.5" Clearview and it didn't work out for me.

I went on another ride yesterday with my Ultra Flip Up 10" and realized I should have ordered a taller one.

Im 6'2" and with my back rest I set very upright. My 10" classic worked pretty well so i thought the Ultra would be even better. its really not that much of a difference from the classic. I still like it better than the X Stream.

Just last week, I was telling a friend of mine that I had just installed the Klock Werks 8 1/2" shield on my 08 Ultra and that I was still getting wind over the shield and hitting me square in the forehead. I'm 5' 10" and have had my seat modified by Mean City Cycles, which sits me about an inch lower. I can look over the Klock Werks shield while I ride with no problem. I did not want to get the 11" version because I did not want to have to look through the shield.

He told me that he had installed the 9" Classic LRS (dark gray) on his SESG and wanted me to try it out. So, last Sunday, I took his bike out for a test ride. We went through twisties, super-slab and casual riding through towns. The Long Ride Shield kept the wind off my head better than the Klock Werks. Granted, the LRS is 1/2" taller and I was riding a Street Glide versus my Ultra, but I was still sitting at the same height.

So, I checked out LRS's website and ordered the 9" Ultra, which has a little more "flip" at the top than the Classic, for my 08 Ultra and received it yesterday. Took her out for a test ride and sure enough, the wind is passing over the top of my head now and no more head-buffeting. I get alot of wind coming up from the bottom around the engine guard, but that's because I have my lowers off. All-in-all, I like the LRS shield better.

Anyone want to buy a 8 1/2" Klock Werks shield with less than 30 miles on it? ROFL!

Three of us just installed the LRS Ultra.

1st- 6', 2010 Limited, Mustang Touring Seat, 10" Ultra

2nd- 5'7", 05 FLHT, Stock Seat, 8" Ultra. Has to look through
the top inch of the shield. Wind is deflected over the full face
helmet. Was running a 6" flat, satisfied customer.

Myself-5'8", 04 FLHT, Mustang Touring Seat, 8" Ultra

When the rest of us get a test ride in I'll post results.

Me:
I put the LRS 6" Ultra Flip on a coule of weeks ago, 5' 8" on a C&C solo, 2010 FLHX. This past weekend I did about 400 (100+ stretches before getting off onto secondary roads) highway miles with it.

Wind/Buffeting:
As far as wind for me, it works pretty good, and would recomend it. Can hear the stereo a bit better but I think that goes without saying.
No more 1/2 shell vibration (or at least not the kind that bothers me whole whole lot) about 95% of time, on occasion depending on cross winds or what have you, there may still be alittle buffeting. Compared to about 85% vibration/buffeting with 1/2 shell with stock shield. I have not tested it with my full face. I did notice that I feel the updraft from the sides of the tank more than I did in the past (i think the headon wind & updraft used to kind of cancel each other out before) but its not so bad as to need to change anything really. Again, here there are also times when its worse than others. I have the tripple tree baffle but I really dont think it does much if anything except maybe push the updraft further back and heat up the front head. IMOP.

Quality:
Good thus far, no blems, fitting issues etc. works well w/my HD 2 bag. Just hope it lasts.

Looks:
Looks good on my SG, wouldnt want to go any taller.

2 Things I wish were different:
1: Color, the Dark Grey is not as dark as the stock shield and has a slight brownish tint to it. I wish it was the same color/tint as the stock shield.
2: I wish the shield came all the way to the ends of the 'slot' for the shield. its about 1/8th of a inch short on both sides.

My issues with the shield are minor, and not enough to make me return the shield or feel the need to test another shield. (YET). Id buy a 9" or taller LRS Ultra Flip for long multiple day trips.

good info Gibby.. i think i'm gonna go with the 6" Ultra Flip. I recently put a CLearview 4.5" Recurve on and i like it, i look over it nicely with my Brawler seat (i'm 5'7") so it's good for shorter runs. but i think it will be a little low for longer runs with the added height from my stock seat or the SESG seat i'm looking at
I honestly have never ridden my bike with the stock sheild. i bought it in the winter and put on an 8" LRS flip to help with the cold..it worked pretty good.. soft lowers are worth their weight in gold too...

I have a shop FULL of windshields of all heights and I just added (2) LRS 8". One is the classic w/ medium tint and the other is Ultra Flip w/ dark tint.

Let me just say that not only is wind protection important to me but the QUALITY of material used so that scratches are nill are equally important. I can attest that LRS are VERY nice and far superceed those $30 JUNK windsheilds sold by others. I say JUNK and I mean it, one wash and they scratch to **** even with the softest rags. GARBAGE!!! I paid the piper and used HD windsheilds after throwing my money away on the cheap POS knockoffs.........did I mention they're GARBAGE?

The wind protection with the LRS is superb TO ME after 1000 miles of use with the 8" height and also maintain the aesthetic appeal. After multiple washings the shield still looks brand spanking new from ALL angles!! My 6" will probably never end up back on my bike since I found my new love. 6" = closed head injury from the wind beating my head to death....but it did look good. LOL..
