2006 FLHXI - Trying to replace grips today. The left went on in about 5 minutes, but stuck with the right side.
What is the trick to getting the cables onto the grip? I can get one cable/ferrule on,, but not enough slack to get the other side one. Doesn't matter which I try, it dont go. Do not want to breakt he cable or plastice groove on grip..
Back both adjusters all the way off. Start with the pull (front) cable, you have to pull it till the throttle is open then it will go on, I use a pair of forcepts to hold the cable but needlw nose plier will work. Then install the idle cable button it up and adjust.
BTW you adjust the pull cable first, keep adjusting until you hear the stop touch the t/body. then adjust the idle for just a hair of slack. Make sure it snaps closed, if its slow then loosen the idle a little until it does.

Yeah - brain fart.... I thought i adjusted both all out, turns out I only adj. one. I rolled back both boots, but only backed one side out.
It helps to remove A/C cover and then block throttle body flapper all the way open while you attach the pull cable.
Take care when using tools to grip cable. you can easily damage them. I so far have been able to do them with my fingers......
Depending on clearance, you might also be able to install them with lower switch housing off bars, then just slip it all in place....if you are internally wired, it won't work.

Thats why I use locking forceps, they dont damage arteries and viens, they'll be just fine on braided cable!
