OK I know I am new here and new to the HD thing as well. Here is my problem. Twice now when shifting to 3rd gear it somehow went to neutral or between gears as when I released the clutch all I got was high rev and 0 acceleration. I pulled in clutch and shifted again to 3rd and it was fine but its a bit embarrassing when you are pulling off and hit 3rd and then neutral? or something anyway. Like I said it has only happened twice and I am extremely new to this scene. I am learning as much as I can about this bike and maintenance to save some money and appreciate any suggestions from you Guys and Girls here.
Alot of shops will take your bike for a spin have a wrech check it out if it keeps happening ,,,if you were riding a a jap bike before they do feel differentfor sure...
They feel completely different. I have an appt with a shop for a 65k service and will have him take it for a spin unfortunately the soonest he could get me in is May 7th. He does come highly recommended though.
This was a problem on both my 93 FXSTC and my 97 FLHRI but have
not had it happen on the 6 speed RKC. Maybe just a 5 speed glitch
and something I lived with. I have talked to others with the same
problem and as I remembe it was prone to happen when I did not
apply alot of pressure on the shift lever.....Tenn.Vol.
It is nice to know it might not be a huge issue. I do think I wasn't putting enough upward pressure on the shifter as that is when it has happened. But still customs by jim is doing my maintenance and I will see what he thinks. Thanks for the response!

Its common if you limp shift a 5 speed, adjust that shifter so its just above you boot so your not lifting air before you touch the shifter.
