I have a nuvi 765t, and have problems veiwing in sunlight.
I have a friend that bought a 1490t, and he can see his fine. I read (somewhere on the net) that the 1490t has a 29% brighter screen.
So, I would suggest looking at the 1490T
Just went with the 660 Zumo HD....not cheap but I think it will be well worth the price....Before I had a Nuvi 750 for both cage and bike which worked OK.
Take a look at the garmin 500 We emailed garmin and wanted one that would sync up with the harley ride planner , we use that alot for directions .The garmin 500 is water resistant for 30 minutes i think and you can get a handlebar mount cheap. retail is around 300 bucks but i seen refurbished on ebay for about 150. Here a link to check out https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=13424
I love GPS's. I got an in-dash one in my car and swear by it. For my bike I wanted one that would just give me directions and thats it, nothing fancy. Check out radio shack online, they sell refurbished tomtoms for dirt cheap. I got a tomtom one 3rd gen for 100 bucks shipped and 2 months later got my mom a tomtom one XL for 130 shipped. Both were refurbed but they come like brand new with the outer case swapped with a new one. It does the job for cheap. Since they were dirt cheap I didn't mind modifying the suction mount to stick to my SG windshield. Made it so it sits flush with the windshield. Works find with the mount stock but this way keeps it in close. I wouldn't hack apart a 300 dollar gps haha. If you want bluetooth and xm then you gotta pay the big bucks but this works fine for me.
The Garmin nuvi 550 is advertised as a motorcycle / outdoor GPS and I've seen it on Amazon.com for $250. That's the one I'm actually thinking about.
Thrilled with mine.
Was reasonably happy with my previous (Lowrance XOG - Now discontinued).
The 550 is waterproof, simple menus, syncable with the usual suspects (including Google Earth), runs off battery for 4 hours... And mine has a little motorcycle on the display instead of a car.
Yeah, my wife thought it was "cute" too.
Got a mount from - Lido (?) -- A RAM mount for the unit with a simple wrap-clamp for the bar was right around $20.
