Had mine for about 3 years also. So far it works fine. I put the stock one back in for service, and cover it up for washing. I don't put alot of faith in it due to the many problems others are experienceing with it. So when I do a manual check I go with the stock one. Maybe one day someone will make a mechanical guage like the one I used years ago on my Sporty.

Common mistake I made was checking my oil cold. Each bar on the graph represents 8 oz. of oil. It would read 8 oz. low and I would add and over fill the bike. If I checked it hot on the jiffy stand, like it said to, it was always full.

Recently the dipstick went hay wire and would hunt when I pressed the button. I have had it for 1 1/2 years and on a hunch I replaced the battery (which is available at HD and only cost me $1.84), and that solved the problem. That battery has got to be one of the cheapest things HD sells through its parts department. I'm satisfied with mine.

Mine's worked fine so far...but I can see how they would fail. You put that kind of heat to a battery, electronics & LCD inside the unit and it's bound to fail.

I had one on my 06 and it worked for 3-4 months and toured in Colorado in the rain, it got condensation, then it started to screw up. Traded it in with the bike. I will keep the stock one on my 09.

i never did buy into the lcd dipstick. i figure that harley has a testing facility down in arizona where the bikes will be exposed to heat like most of us will not experience, and the motors run just fine there. i felt it was another gimmick to hook the yuppies visa card out of their wallet, thanks anyway

My LCD sticks reads fine with my '04.....but I believe the owners manuals calls for checking fluid ON the jiffy stand.
ALSO.....when you remove the LCD gauge.....you are to twist it back and forth to remove....not ROCKING it side-to-side.

Have one on my 02 since i boght it it 01,same battery and still works great.I also have one on my 09 Road King,at times it says high oil level,I just ignore it.If it would say low i would check. They must be pretty accurate on the tempurature because I've crossed checked them with each other even though their made different.

I dont think the "High" refers to oil level. If you notice, when operating correctly, the readout says "Cold oil" before you start the bike when its cold, and "High oil" when the bike is warmed up. I think its weird that the opposite of cold is high but I think HD worded it this way so people will not think the bike was running hot if the dipstick said "Hot oil" instead if "HIgh oil" I think the word HIgh is referring to high oil temp. I think this is a good part just dont shoot it with water when washing the bike and regarding the accuracy it may be off a bit from time to time, like any gauge, but it is reading the accurate oil temp coming off the engine from the top of the splash baffle when the oil is the hottest, as the oil drops and runs through a series of cooling baffles that are inside the oil pan it cools off about 20degrees F b4 it goes back into the engine.

I have had one for about a year. It is working fine, matches the stock stick in measuring, and it convinced me to by an oil cooler for the hot days in the city.

So it is linked to the credit card with a side sell on the oil cooler.

I envy the folks that can buy a bike and just ride it without adding or tinkering.
I am not one of those. ;-)

Had one for 3.5 years on my 05 King, never a problem. Got a new one for the 09, over a year ago, same thing...trouble free. No yuppie, NO Visa!
