Prior to that I fab'd my own end piece once, as you are. It held up perfect.
Check J & P Cycles. I know Iv'e seen the end piece with rubber bumper in their catalogue. Not cheap though (around $25) which would put you close on price to HD's upgraded version.
One thing I've noticed with the upgraded brackets (I have all 4), a bit more vibration in the mirrors & wind deflectors. I firmly believe that's the real reason they never changed their design until now. The old design had perfect harmonics, at least until it failed.
Thats prolly why im seeing a bit more vibration at certain rpm's because mine is more solidly mounted now after I welded the brackets like they should have to begin with . Since im still out of work and have a lot more time than money I decided to just do the welding on mine for now ..

I think I'll go ahead & use the aluminum angle for now as that is what I have here. I'll
look at work & find some steel to use later if the aluminum breaks.I'm sure not about
to spend $90.00 on brackets to repair something H-D designed wrong.

Here is the link to the Savior bracket.....doesn't look like it would be too hard to fab it at home.

This looks like it would be the best solution to answer increased vibration after strengthening the current brackets.

Geez, Leadman, I don't think that i'd use that aluminum angle. Aluminum is very soft and malleable. If you tighten a bolt on it and the fairing wants to move around (vibrate) the bolt will just wear into the aluminum. Then, you will have a "loose" bolt. I'd spend the extra couple of dollars and buy a small piece of angle iron, or, if you want to splurge, stainless angle(no rust).

Looks like a great weekend to take my fairing off. I have an 09 EGC with 27,000 miles, but I'm not sure if I have the newer style brackets. I haven't noticed and difference in the way she handles or vibration in the fairing but since it only takes five minutes to take it off, I'll give it a look.

Spent 15 minutes this morning taking the fairing off. No broken brackets but I went ahead and replaced the two longer brackets with the new and improved design. For $20 bucks it was worth doing.

I repaired mine with steel brackets from Ace Hardware a year ago. They seem solid as a rock now.
