love the zummo but its pricey many here have used the nuvi"s (there not waterprof)but priced much better and a sandwich bag and rubberband will keep it dry.
I have been very pleased with the Zumo 550. I use it primarily on the bike, but it comes with an adapter so I can use it in my truck, etc. Very solid piece of equipment. Going on my third year with this unit.
I'm a minimalist and don't want a huge gps hanging on my bars so I ordered this from garmin its only $499.00 to so not to bad on the pocket book. Its waterproof, small, it lets you choose road type (highway, toll etc.) thought id throw it out there as an option.
I have the Garmin Zumo 450. It's older and discontinued so you can get a reasonable deal for it if you can still find one. Only thing it doesn't have that the newer ones have is Bluetooth, which I could care less. I like the built in MP3 that plays through my steareo.
I've been using the Garmin Nuvi 760 for a couple years, and I really like it. I've taken it on three coast to coast rides and on several regional rides. Not only is it a good GPS, it is a great MP3 player as well. I routinely load it with SD cards crammed with songs and audio books. The overall features of the Nuvi 760 make it a great choice.
The Nuvi has held up very well on the bike. Given how much the Touring models shake at idle, I'd say the little device has a high survivability rating.
I don't use it in the rain, so being "water proof" is not that big of a deal for me. I have been in a shower while the GPS was mounted behind the windshield, and it held up without a problem. I don't know that I'd say that it is water proof, though. For me, I just tuck it away in a plastic bag in my Tourpak when it starts to rain hard.
Garmin 660, fairing mount. Love it. Mini SD card and it holds all ma music. No complaints, but like all have said the price is one of those things that hurts at first
This is the Zumo 550 - There is an upgraded model the 660 that would be nice but this one is certainly adequate.
I don't use it much unless I am traveling so I mounted it so that the only thing that is left on the bike is the small Ram Ball when it is not in use. When I stop it takes less than 10 seconds to take it off and throw it in the saddlebag.
