Default 6th Gear Light Question

Rolling along the other day in 6th gear I pulled the clutch lever in and noticed the 6th gear blue icon light went out. I let the clutch lever back out and the light came back on.

I thought this was strange as the bike was still in 6th gear only the clutch lever pulled in.

Does yours do the same?

Yep. On both bikes. Don't worry about it

That's the way is. Just consider it's a "6th gear engaged" light.

The ECM turns the light on. It has a map that knows what rpm the engine should be for the speed you're traveling. When the speed and rpm match, the light turns on. When you pull in the clutch and rpm drops for your speed, the light goes out. This will also tell you when your clutch is slipping. Mine started slipping at full throttle, sixth gear from 90mph and up, the light went out. After the slipping stopped, the light came back on. Pretty slick setup.

The ECM also turns the light out when it gets an input from the clutch switch. if your clutch switch plays up then the light will go off and on.

Mine is green and seems to have a delay in coming on when I upshift. It never really bothered me but Mongomark's explaination sets it straight for me. Thanks.
