Default 2010 detach kit

I had a detach kit fitted on my '08 and have just upgraded to a Limited. Bought the detach kit with the bike and just fitted it this weekend.

I do love the detach option but I have to say my first impressions of the newer version of the detach kit are that it is not nearly as well engineered as the previous generation kit.

My main gripe is the 2 front bushes. The slot is now equipped with a rubber liner, but the slot is about 5mm too wide so the tourpack is not firm at all. The back mounts (secured with the cam lock) are fine.

I fear I am going to have to machine up some better bushes but it really annoys me that I have to do this when HD are charging so much for this kit in the first place. Anyone fixed this and got some quick / easy solution?

Bump

Any feedback appreciated please, looking for ideas for this fix, or is it just my unit that has this problem?

Do a search for this. I just saw an older thread where a member was machining new bushings to tighter tolerances. I agree on the fitment, my tour pack on the Road Glide has a lot of play in the cam lock bushings.

I quess I had the opposite problem. If anything the fit on my 10EGC was to tight. After a couple of times on and off it is now just about right.

The rubber part of the front mount is supposed to slide over the metal spacer sleave. Thats where your getting all the play from.

I thought that was the case and tried that, but it wouldn't fit over the metal spacer, the diameter was too large.

I am fairly familiar with the kits as I used it a lot on my previous bike

I am making up a nylon bush at the moment so I will have it sorted today, but if your solution is correct and I am out of tolerance, do you have any idea why they show the nylon sleeved bush on that same locating pin? Is it used for a sissy bar?

No idea why the front locating pin has to be so long either. The 08 kit really was the biz and worked well, this one seems to be not quite up to the same standard

Do you have the right bracket and mount? The 09-10 bracket and mount are different from previous years.
I have the 54205-09 docking kit and the 53276-09a detachable mounting rack on my 2010. Fits perfect.

If your trying to put the 08 detachable mounting rack on the 09-10 docking kit its not going to fit properly.

Definitely, the 08 kit went with my old bike. I fitted both myself and they certainly are very different
