Default How do you replace a fuel injector?

My RKC seems to have a bad fuel injector, the rear cylinder has some intermittent missing at low rpms. Is this something I can change myself? I see there are places that clean them. Is this worthwhile? Maybe someone can direct me to credible info.

Thanks,

Jay

Try pulling your codes, it's probably not an injector.

How did you conclude that it a bad injector? They're not like spark plugs, ya' know! This ain't like the old days.

Unlikely that it is an injector issue. Review wire going to injector.
Consider review of spark plug cable or something else first.

If im not mistaken, you should be able to get a ohm reading that will tell you if the injector is bad.

Default Do you have to remove tank to change plug wire?

Thanks for the helpful feedback. My independent shop said it might be a fuel injector or valve problem. I just took a compression reading myself and they are both 150 lbs.

So I want to replace the pluq wires at least. Do I have to remove the gas tank to change the plug wires?

You can reach in & unplug the injectors w/tank on. I had my rear one go out about 1-2 months ago. With the engine running, if you spray a flamable brake clean into the air intake & see what it does. Mine on the front portion of the throtlle opening would cause it to die but on the rear part I could spray all I wanted to & no change. I unplugged the injector & redid the spray method & that cylinder smoothed out. I then put a noid light on the injector wires & it was flashing the way it was supposed to. Changed out the injectors & it ran ok (pkugges fouled, ETS was bad & needed to readjust the TPS, now it runs better than it ever has but mileage is down to 32 mpg ( was around 45-50). Biggest thing when you pull the tank are the fuel lines, the forward one (pressure is at an angle & easy to cross thread, other than that it was pretty simple.

Default Cant remover injector

I have the same problem. Multiple codes for r injector. I pulled of the clamp and lines but I think Im going to break the injector trying to remove it. I have lubed it and can work it back and forth with a crescent wrench. Still wont come out.

Injectors are pretty damn durable. Haven't replaced the ones in 93 F150 since I bought new w/236K on em.

I am think based on what your indy said you might want to seek out a mechanic. That is of course if they physically checked or did you just describe it to them. Check all the other obvious components 1st. Good luck.
