I have a 2000 RK classic police model, I need to tighten my handle bars and it looks like if I remove the cover over the handle bars I can do this. But can anyone tell me how to get the lock assy out of the cover? Thanks.
take the headlight out.
remove passing lamp bar and windshield (you may skip this step but it is harder to get to the screw and nut for the front of the cover and you have to totally remove the nut for at the front of the clamp cover to get it off. If you remove the the passing lamp bar and windshield then you can loosen that same screw and nut with out removing it...split the nacelle and it comes through the top)
remove nut front of metal spear on top of nacelle-remove spear
remove/loosen screw holding front of handlebar cover down (see above for options)
use small screwdriver and lift up on plastic trim piece at fork lock-then remove 2 screws holding down rear of cover
whalla adjust handlebars.......tighten front clamp bolts first and then tighten rear clamp bolts to torque spec.
Reverse procedure.
Not sure when they did it...but there are now 2 plastic plugs on the top of the cover of police RK's that when removed allow access to the 2 rear clamp bolts. Your 2000 might be too early for this OE mod though.
