Default Tool sharing - Just an idea.

Has anyone here on the forum thought about starting a tool sharing program? I've been tooling up lately for an engine build and it's starting to get expensive.

I would be willing to share a few of the tools I have. All I'd ask is that they come back to me in good shape. You pay the shipping.

Just a thought. Let's kick this idea around a bit and see what we come up with.

Steve

Good idea, but just like ebay, you're putting your trust in someone you don't know...

You might want to rethink this.
The tools that I have...I wouldn't just mail out for the cost of shipping.
I have an Alignment Tool that costs roughly $500 dollars.
I'd hate to ship that thing out and never see it again.
I'd require a deposit in the amount of the purchase price of the tool.
You get your deposit back, minus any missing/broken parts, when I get my tool back.

Never loan out your tools, to anyone, for any reason. Ever.

OK, I've rethought this and have a new idea.

How about a tool sharing program with people in your area. That way we could track them down if needed.

I've already had several offers to loan me tools after friends of mine saw that I'm doing a big bore project.

I'm a retired Cat mechanic with over 30K in tools. Now I have over 30.5K in tools after spending $500 at George's garage.

I am still willing to loan them to anyone in my neck of the woods. Live in SW Washington.

Unfortunately this is getting to be my policy. I do loan tools to family and close friends. They are also welcome to use my shop and all the tools in it. Several times I had to go retrieve tools from a couple of them, if they could find them,

.....which reiterates the "never loan your tools" policy.
And I actually agree with that post.
