The pullback bar is supposed to extend 2 inches back to help us shorter riders? anyone have this installed? extensive, expensive for dealer to install at purchase? how do you like it? thanks.
firebrick, after three years of shoulderpain I finally put the reduced reach bars {2 in.} on in March. Service manual was some help but did not define some aspects fully. You do have to completely loosen the inner fairing to get to the riser clamps which means the spotlight ***. needs to come off. I ordered clutch cable 38922-09 [diamondback] and routed it the same as the stock cable around the left inner fairing bracket and cable tied it. No matter what I did, the cable would chaff on the bracket to the point that it wore through the outer stainless layer. Also there is no way to stop the cable from sliding up and down at the cabletie on the right frame downtube. It's as if the cable is 3/4 inch short. To solve some of this I ground an oval out of the fairing bracket, wrapped the cable in heavy tape and then wrapped it in a piece of leather to stop the chaffing. PIA. I also tried routing the cable on the frontside of the crashbar=no good either. I'm no idiot!!! I worked part time in an indy. shop in the early 70's and this is my 23rd bike in 40 years but the angle of the bars to the cable may not be correct. Onthe positive side they feel great going down the road but slow speed handling is now a problem as my elbows hit my chest in any sharp turn. I wouldn't do it again!!!!! cobalt07
i had them on my bike for about 3 hours . they sucked big time. no control at low speed under 10 mph. and my hands and shoulders hurt so bad i had to take a 1 hour break before i headed home. put a set of bars on that came off my friends heritage just awesome should have done that 6 years ago. oh yeah installation on my road glide was about 2 hours. i beer break and 5 smokes.
I did the Khromewerks +2 Sweepers and an adjustable backrest. I only wish the bars came back another two inches. That set up sure did make my bike comfortable. Otherwise, I'd have sold it. I also kept the stock cables, etc.
I am going through the same delima right now with my 2010 Ultra. Another option I'm looking at is the Hill Country Customs minu apes (Part #AHP-A07) the whole kit is $439.95 for ABS bikes. Any and all opinions would be welcome. BTW, I put the Heritage bars on my 07 Road Glide and still had shoulder pain. Something about the placement of the hands...just didn't work.
I havent ridden an ultra very far, but I loved my apes on my wideglide. the riding position on that thing was perfect, be sad to part with it but the ultra is going to be sweet. ill keep checking on here for solutions for us short armers.
