Default Beach bars to apes??? (Road King Custom)

I'm probably one of the few people on the planet that liked the buckhorn bars on my old Dyna, now that I've got the RK Custom I'm finding I'm not digging the beach bars...are apes in any way similar to the old buckhorns??

I'm a woman and am 5'10" tall, I have regular length arms for a woman (read - not super long).

Any thoughts??

I had Reduced reach bars on my RKCustom, and while they felt great, they looked alittle too 'small' on the front end. I ended up going with Wild1 502's (12.5") Very Comfortable and look good. I'm 6'. You might want to consider 10" bars. But take into consideration your seat and where it positions you.

Those look really nice!

I asked about going with buckhorns on the RK and the parts dude at the dealership said they are too narrow for a bike like that, he suggested apes. I like the way apes look, I just don't want to end up putting a lot of stress on my wrists of shoulders.

I have gorilla arms (i.e. knuckle dragger).

I used have WO518's and hated them. They came back too far and hit my leg when turning. Then I had WO504 which were awesome. The are like Fatboy bars but wider and fatter.

I switched to WO502 12.5" apes last year. My shoulder and neck are much more comfortable now. I kind of wish I'd gone to 14" I'm not changing them.

You should look at the Wild One Chubby 8.5" (same size as Heritage bars but a bit wider) or the 10" baby apes. They look great and would be comfortable. The key is to make sure your wrists aren't above your shoulders when you're riding.

Hope that helps.

I have the 502's on my Softail (and love'em), and just ordered them yesterday for my '04 Road King Custom.

I belive I did right- but I'll let you know.

I bought an 07 Custom recently and the beach bars looked cool but after 25 miles my wrists were killing me. Last week I installed the heritage bars and so far, so good.

I've got HD Beefy Bars on mine and while I like them (did 10,100 miles in 30 days last summer) what I REALLY liked was the Wild1 Beach Bars that I had on my Heritage Springer. They were perfect for me and set so good for cruising.

I have seriously been thinking about switching out and finding some nice beach bars for the King!!!

PS...I'm 5'9"

Thanks, I'll take a look. I'm hoping I can find someone with a set insltalled and see how they feel.

BTW, does your dealer have a jig for trying out different seat/handlebar setups? I've seen them at some dealerships...Of course, sitting on a frame in a showroom is nothing like spending 4-5 or 8-10 hours wearing down the tread on your tires!!!
