My crystal ball is certainly no better than anyone elses, but my guess is that Harley will offer both water cooled and air cooled configurations side by side in the near future. Traditionalists are always going to want the air cooled, and yet the water cooled would have huge advantages of it's own. I could be way wrong, but that's my best guess. I would love to have one of each.
I, personally, would be all over the water cooled tourer. There is nothing more pathetic then seeing someone on their Harley pulled off to the side of the road because they have to let their bike cool down. I know people will say that if you want water cooled, then buy the Goldwing. No thanks as I prefer my Harley and I don't see water cooling it changing that preference. I think it would make the Ultra that much more enjoyable. I drive the Dan Ryan in to Chicago daily and it is pretty much stop and go all day and pulling off the Ryan to cool down is not the safest thing to do. It would really suck if you were 2 up with the wife and had to pull off due to overheating. Also, with the way the lowers are on the Ultra, I can't see the radiator being all that noticable.
If Harley does a water-cooled tourer, it will probably be based on the V-Rod motor/platform. If done this way, the old-schoolers can still get the type of bike they prefer, the folks wanting a liquid cooled bike will have their option, and the 'tweeners' will have both options.
The day that MOCO water cools the 45 degree V Twin will be the day that I quit buying Harley. The whole concept of a Harley Davidson is that it is air cooled...besides the Vrod...which has not been accepted by the majority of old schoolers...and in numbers..probably never will be. Sorry...not trying to offend, but facts are facts.
We will miss ya man... NEXT YEAR! Don't bother asking me how I know cause I'm not telling.... Bring it on I want one and its about time...

But yet we pay so much and some of our bikes are worth more than car. I agree it is pathetic and embarrasing.
Just because it would be liquid cooled doesn't make it any less a Harley. I always have a problem with the use of "traditionalist" when pertaining to Harleys. Seems to me that fuel injection, the radio, cruise control, cd players and mp3 players not to mention navigation are not traditional. For that matter, neither is the rubber mounted engine. Why is it that liquid cooling would be the straw that would break the camels back?
