Not Trying to be a smart a$$, But according to my owners manual too much oil in the primary may cause difficulty in finding neutral. Something to check.
if she's new at riding, all it's going to take is a bit of experience, she'll get it eventually. the first thing i did when i got my streetglide home was get rid of the grandpa heel shifter. it makes for a lot more room for my boot on the floorboard, as well as more comfortable shifting, for me anyway. i have no problem finding neutral, it's always between first and second for some reason.
I'd rather have to work a bit to find neutral than to find it to easily. Back in the day when I road a metric bike, I was constantly landing in neutral on an upshift and kept over-revving the motor. I like my Harley because I never end up in neutral when looking for second gear.
It's a pain on most Harleys, it is easier from a stop if you roll the bike forward or bakwards an inch or two depending on the slope. About once per year I will hit neutral by accident shifting from first to 2nd, could never do it on purpose.
