Closed Loop Tuning
To all the'07 buyers and those thinking about engine/exhasut modifications who is considering going with the closed loop tuning products like Terry or Twintec? Seems with the all the headers now coming with the O2 bung that we should see these products come to the forefront and give the PCIII and the SERT a run for their money. Sure they are more expensive initially but when you add in the need for the dyno tune with the SERT/PCIII is a true wide band sensor/closed loop tuning device really that much more moola?
The 07 has a upgraded EFI that is a limited closed loop system, said to compesate for exhaust changes but not air cleaner changes, but as time moves on Im sure we will get more info.
I have Rineharts true duals on my 05 ultra and those came with a 02 port that I had to plug with there plug. why can't people use these pipes for there 07 with pc111 or raceturner?
savvy power freaks should be all over this one...it replaces the hd ecm with a tune on the fly unit capable of any performance mods, anytime

there are fuel controllers on the market now that utilize the O2 bung and dynamically mange the A/F ratio over many points of resolution...thats what Dayton Twin Tec is all about and to a lesser degree that is what Terry is selling. Problem is with the more techinally competent offering from Twin Tech is it is almost $900 inlcuding the Wide Band O2 sensors. I do not think we will ever see an offering like this from Dynojet becasue their buinsess plans hinges on the idea that they sell the PCIII and then you have to visit a dealer with a Dynojet 250 and spend $150 to $300 for a tune. Sure Dynojet now offers a Wide Band Commander, but it is not well integrated into the PCIII and you end up with some dumb *** analog A/F guage with the kit.
I think what keeps the price so high with Twin Tec is they do not manufacturer or sell many units......yet. The closed loop system built into the ECM on the '07 models is not made for performance tuning. It is a very simple Narrow Band O2 sensor that connects to the ECM and enables the MOCO to prove to the EPA that their cycles are lean and environmentally friendly at one or two throttle/rpm positons.
Has anyone on the forum had experience with the Twin Tec? If Twin Tech can get that kit down to the $500 to $600 range I think it will offer us all a real good option vs the SERT and current PCIII with all their required dyon runs.

Does anyone have a plug in tuning unit for an '07 yet? Not that I am aware of!

Got nearly an instant response form Daytone Twin Tech on the availability of their closed loop wide band system for '07:
Yes, our TCFI IID is being tested and appears to work fine. We are developing a setup file for the new 96 CID engines. Check back on our web site in 1-2 weeks.
These guys have what appears to be a helluva system to dynamically tune your Harley. For $850 you get a complete system with two Bosch O2 sensors and a module that replaces your ECM. And no Dyno tunes needed! If I had an '07 I would wait just bit until the pipe guys get the new "curves" worked out and they will surely be offering the pre-built bungs on their pipes and then talk to Daytona about getting a real fuel controller.

I talked to Daytona TwinTec about a month ago and still have not ruled it out as my next mod.
I sure like the idea of tuning on the fly. Additionally, custom maps (PCIII or SERT) are only as good as the tuner creating them. One thing to keep in mind when you're look at the results of various tunes on individual dyno sheets, is that what you are seeing is the result of 100% throttle run(s). In reality, not too many of us spend much time at 100% throttle. Therefore, the tuning that occurs at lesser throttle positions is much more improtant, from a rideability perspective. Because the "deliverable" we get from ,most tuners is the dyno sheet we really don;t know how much effort was really put into the tuning region that matter most.
Beacuse the closed loop systems tune all the time, regardless of throttle position, the rideability should likely show much greater improvement with the closed loop setups. Having said that, it seems like I recall my Buell runs closed loop until 80% (or somesuch) throlle and then falls back to a static map. Dunno if that is the case on the Delphi HD's too, or not.
