Default Tool Kit Recommendations

I was looking at J&P Cycle website to purchase a tool kit and wondered what kind of recommendations anyone can give me. Neither my husband or myself carry a tool kit and I think we should so I was going to order one for us (maybe make it one of his fathers day gifts). Is it cheaper to put together your own kit or buy one already made up? If I put together my own - would I just go to sears and purchase the items there? What items do I have to have or should have? I am trying to be as economical as possible and have looked at the HD kits but I think they are overpriced. I was looking at CruzTOOLS® EconoKIT® H1 Tool Kit on their website. My husband has a 2000 RK Classic and I have a 2008 SG; we would be able to use the same kit so I could just order 1? Lots of questions....thanks everyone who replies to this.

Here is the kit I was looking at:

Suggestions and recommendations welcome

I bought one of these: http://www.beza.biz/windzone/

I like it. They are pretty popular here.

You could always find out what is in each tool kit and if cost effective make up your own kit, and if not buy which ever one is the better deal. I'm not real impressed with either one as I like to make up my own.

A premade kit will never have all the things you might need. Go over your bike look at the things that you may need to wrench on out on the road and make a list of tools needed. Then buy the tools you need and put them in a zippered bag. If you shop in the right places, you can spend less money and still have a more complete tool kit.

I picked up a set of CruzTOOLS for my Street Glide while on a road trip, whats nice it has all the right sizes, tools are combos that takes down the size of the tools and bag. I can't see how you could buy quality tools separately that would be cheaper than buying a package deal.
