I had replaced the bars on mine before it failed but put 20,000 miles on it in between. The dealer never said anything about the bars and replaced the sensor under warranty. Of course I used the Heritage bars and it wasn't as obvious as ape hangars.

That is why I tell people that are changing bars to put in the 32310-08 twist grip sensor which does not include that stupid little green clip. If you're careful you can reuse the stock 32305-08 sensor, but you have to be very careful with that green clip.
