So I pulled my plugs and HDF helped me find that I have a "lean" condition. thought running a colder plug would help...not
Called my father
( 74 years of age - ex- Air Force mech. stationed at Castle AFB 1951-55 - Korea Vet. )
1.) Do you have some backfiring - YEP
2.) Pinging - YEP
Quick check: Grab a can of spray Carb cleaner, cut out a cardboard box as not to get any
blow back into filter, spray cleaner into front then rear EFI intake...
Sure enough: Front intake perfect
Rear intake LEAK !!! I could tell this as the engine rpm's drop like a rock !
D A M N !!! I have to take it into the dealer, still under warranty.
Week gaskets must be the cause....
Moral of the story... Father still knows best , even 300 miles away :-)
As he said, he has forgoten more than I have learned from him in the 10 years of racing 1970 - 1980 Motocross and building a 1964 - 300k and a 1971 Charger - 8th grade 1975
This was one of the first tricks he taught me when chasing down back firing and pinging.... I blamed his granddaughter, she is sucking my brain cells as I did to his, by all the teaching we have to do.... ;-)

Nothing beats experience....My Dad could sync a multi carbed engine with nothing but his ears and a stethoscope. Age and wisdom... Still learning from him even though he is now in his 80's.
My Dad used to say the older I got the stupider he got. I know now that meant as I got older I thought I knew it all. He was always one step ahead of me though. He just didn't let me know that until I asked. He always had the answer. I miss him!
Dad taught me all about small block chevrolets and that just led to snowmobiles motorcycles boats and on and on.. He told me once that I was smarter than him and I asked why he thought that.. he said you finished high school and can build a whole car from the ground up.. I told him if it wasnt for his smarts teaching me to look at stuff to see how it worked id never got as far as I did .. Was just thinking about him the other day . I miss the ornery old bastard a bunch...
Funny story..I brought my 09 EGC in to the dealer for the same issue last year. A indy I brought my bike to for the 5K checkup had the exact same model and year and showed me his plug compared to mine...mine was running big time lean. I took it to the dealer and had them put it thru testing..they found NOTHING wrong and even had a factory rep take a look. I was told there was NOTHING wrong and run the bike til it dies. I told them to document that in my records so when my bike dies somewhere I can come back at them. Thanks for posting this ..might have another dealer I'm going to check this out
