Just wondering about the crankcase. Isn't there likely to be bearing trash that fell toward the inside? Have you heard of many INA inner-cam bearings fail in TC's? I haven't, but his is an early-TC with the smaller 7/8" bearings.
Ive only seen one inner bearing failure, on an 05 SE EG, and the only thing that could have caused it (we didnt get to disassemble the motor) was for it to have been installed backwards from the factory.
Looking at the picture of the cage it looks like the back of the cage blew out so yes I would say there is trash in the cases to. I would pull the case plug and drain into a clean pan and see what comes out, then flush a BUNCH of alcohol into the case to see what comes out. If very much did it would be complete teardown time!
Sorry to hear about your misfortune. I lost my cam bearings on my 03 Fatboy. I'm afraid to say you're likely to find out that you need a complete rebuild. Unless you caught the bearings at the moment of failure (highly unlikely) you'll probably need a rebuild. I said "screw it" and sent the engine in to HD using their rebuild program which includes upgrading the engine with all the latest components such as the hydraulic cam shoes.
Its worth looking in to with your dealer although it's not going to help on your trip (probably 6-8 weeks from start to finish this time of year). Rental sounds like your best bet for the trip. Consider yourself lucky if you got 70k out of the 02 stock design cam shoes and bearings.
I agree I wouldnt rush the fix just for the trip 100k time for a rebuild rent a bike have a great time on your trip and when you get back you can deal with your bike..Better then sitting on the side of the road hundreds of miles from home..
I won't be fixing it just for the trip. If I ride, a buddy has offered his spare bike... and 02 GL-1800. I've never ridden a Wing, but in this case, it might be OK.
At this point, I am going to put in the SE camplate kit, a new set of cams and some lifters, unless I find something in the oil pan or filter that convinces me otherwise.
There was only $100.00 difference in the price of the kit than just buying an oil pump. If I just bought the pump, I would still need to buy tensioners...

That's the plan, plus pulling the oil pan and cleaning it out...
