Does anyone know if the D@D Fatcat standard baffle is just the quiet baffle with the wrapping removed? Also, what is the best way to remove the baffle?
Both the standard and quiet louvered core baffles have the same core design and diameter, the difference is in the outer can of the baffle.
The standard has a solid outer can.
The quiet has a perforated outer can with packing wrapped around it.
If you are removing the standard baffle, it's pretty easy. Take the muffler off the bike, remove the small bolt holding the baffle in place, spray some WD-40 into the small gap between the baffle and muffler body, then get a thick phone book or piece of 2x8 pine, and drop the muffler down onto it with force to get the baffle moving. Once the baffle is moving out the end of the muffler, you'll be able to grab it with your hands and pull it out.
The quiet baffle is another story.............same procedure would be used, but the packing bunches up and freezes the baffle in place. I haven't been able to get my quiet baffle out either time I've tried.
I'm on 2 years with my quiet baffle, and it's definitely louder. I want to repack it and quiet it down a bit, but since I can't get it out I'm just leaving it alone.
