Installed E3 radial tonight on the rear of my 09 EG Standard. Original Dunlop lasted 9800 miles.
1st impressions are.
not any smoother or rougher riding than original.
corners better.
some road noise above 60 mph.
does not catch grooves in road as bad as original.
Hope this tire last as long or longer than original. Also, thinking road noise will get better with break in.
I've had the E3's on 3 different bikes. If you think they make noise now, they'll get much noisier as they wear.
On a positive note though, they wear very well, and the are great on tar snakes and grated bridges. They don't seem to wander as some tires do.
I'd buy them again when my original tires wear out but they will howl, believe me on that.
I put a set of E3s on back in March and now have over 3k on them. All I can say is wow!!! There is just no comparison between the 402s and the E3s! These things are so much better than those 402s!

What size did you pick? The E3 isn't available in 180/65-16.
By the way, 9,800 miles with your original rear tire is pretty good, IMO. I've used Metzeler and Avon in the past and never got more than 7K with them.

Sure hope that you have a radial tire on the front as well. The different handling properties of radial and bias ply tires will have disastrous results...

Disastrous results? You're pushing it, IMO. A bias on the front and a radial on the rear is not ideal but it's fine. The opposite is definitely not recommended.
