thanks for all the input. It was my understanding that the xieds work under 4000 rpms in the closed loop which covers a lot of my driving. This was the simpliest way to get the closed loop mixture down to around 13.81. I was also told that outside of closed loop the AFR is already set to 13.8 - 12.51 on a stock bike depending on rpms and engine load so these mixtures were rich enough already. Is this information that I received from Nightrider correct.

My personal experience with Xied's, They work and work well! I've been running them on my 08 UC. I just bought a set of FL-XIED's for my wifes 2010 SG Trike. They will be delivered tomorrow. I disagree with the poster who said they don't do anything to cool the engine. By enrichening the AFR from 14.7.1 to 13.8.1 they do cool it down. The reason the engine's are so hot is because EPA has HD at 14.7.1 They cooled my bike down and I only lost 3 mpg. The XIED's IMO are good even if you are leaving the bike completely stock.

Am I wrong in assuming that after 4K RPM's you are in open loop and don't need the Xied's???

If you can find a July issue of AMI there is a article about open /closed loop op-eration and in it there are a couple of refernces to how different aftermarket ecm managment devices work and ecm writable programs work. This might help in your decision!

i would seem to think once you are past the rpm set for closed loop. then it's just like stock you are running on the map programed for stock engine .but with the exhaust and air cleaner added you would probably be lean in the upper rpms unless you program your upper rpms a little richer ie.download. then you may be ok. but by then you have already spent $250.00 for the ieds and download .somthing you would have to test on a dyno with a sniffer to monitor whats going on at all rpms . i guess that makes sense

I never understand this type of logic. The XIED's work but the tuner is better. The XIED's are around $100... the Tuner is $379. As long as you get better performance with no hesitation and no popping upon deceleration.....why spend another $279 on something that will do the same basic thing... If all you are doing is putting on an SE air cleaner and a set of slip on's... the XIED's are all you really need to fatten up the air/fuel ratio. I'll save the $279 for other mods.

It's like saying a Trans Am is ok.. but a Corvette is better.

That I wouldn't have to worry about, I'm only in the upper RPM range when accellerating getting out of a cager's way. I'm almost always in the cruising range.

Thanks for all of the advice from everyone on the Forum. I will probably go to either the Dobeck TFI or the FLXIEDS. Leaning more towards the FLXIEDS as the TFI will still trip something in the ecm. They say it does not cause any problems but who knows. I have decided to stay just with the Vance and Hines Ovals and just leave the air for now. Really just wanted some more sound.

That's all I want is my Harley to sound like a Harley. The 96 CI engine is plenty powerful for me. I have slip-ons and Stage1 AF. That's as far as I'm going. as for my wife's 2010 SG Trike, I put Jackpot slip-ons on it. I have the FL-XIEDS in hand to install tonight. I'm not sure I'm going to do anything else to hers. With the 103 engine, It's enough for her the way it is. She just wanted it to sound good as well. Good Luck!!

All a good read. I have the O2IED's on my 07 FLHT. No complaints. Mid 40's for mileage on easy trips, and the 1.75 inch Rush mufflers sound good. No decel pops.
