Yep, the first two mods owners seem to make to RKs are new seats (stock seat is total crap) and installing different bars like "Heritage" style or even some apes.
its been lowered with street glide rear shocks, has a sundowner seat and the original cop (heritage) bars. Yes, IMO stock civilian RKs have a poor riding position but I've sat on road glides and street glides and felt the same way. I guess once your used to a bike, change feels weird but I'd still rather sit back than lean forward at all.

Thanks for all the feedback/input. The bike did have stock bars, and the original owner changed out the seat so he could reach them (he was 5'8.) I guess since I'm 6'1 1/2 the aftermarket seat was just a little too leaned up for me. I thought it was a aftermarket seat when I made the post but didn't confirm that until I confirmed the bars being stock. I just wanted to make sure this isn't how they were stock because it felt crazy to me!
Ride a Police model. Those are set up with a very forward and high riding position for good reasons............accurate tight manuvers. No, you will not be thrown over the bars if you stop quickly. That position can get very comfortable to ride with if you train that way. I installed the closer reach RK bars on my 2004 RK years ago and later installed a Police seat with custom upholstery. I am 5'-8.

Yup, great for the parking lot. Not so great for cruising. The first thing to go when I bought an ex-police road king was the air ride seat. Too high and too far forward.
Just like any other bike in that it may not fit you perfectly but can surely be made to do so. I would love to have 2 more bikes; a UC and maybe a Nightster but LOVE my King!!!! If funds ever permit I will get at least one other and if it were just one it would be the UC.
