Hah! I actually tried calling Michael's but just sat on hold for 5 minutes waiting for "sales," so as I waited I drove past them and headed to Golden Gate Harley in Corte Madera.

How's the service at Michael's? Are they pretty up to date with issues we have with these bikes or do they wait until something breaks to actually fix it? Also sent ya a PM...

I do all my own service work on my rides, service manual in hand!
Good choice on the GGHD I think my buddy got a not so great deal, my last Harley was from GGHD. The Ultra we have now was bought off of consignment from HD of Ukiah (only had 233 miles on him).

I worked some service stuff into the sale with GGHD so I've got to take it to them for at least the first service and probably the first oil change after that, but I'll be doing my own service as well (if possible).

I've worked on all my previous bikes, supermotos, street bikes, dirt bikes, so this should be no different... but I may get stuck and have to bring it in.

Are you running through oil at all, or should I be concerned with running through oil? I checked it when I first rode it and it was fine, but I haven't been paranoid or checking since... wondered how finicky they are and how often I should be checking.

It didn't use any the 1st 1000, changed it at 958 miles and put Amsoil in all 3 holes. Now has 1860 on it so I need to check it after our Reno trip.
I usually change it all every 2500-3000 miles and never had it need any between changes.

I'm sure search will do this for me, but while we're here I'll just ask. I understand the bike runs all "different" oil for the drive, transmission and engine but I also recall the dealer saying if you go synthetic (of course they mentioned the HD-synthetic) you can run the same in all....

That brings me to the question... when you switch to Amsoil are you running one weight in all three spots? What weight? If not, what weights do you run? I'm looking to swap to synthetic soon so I can (hopefully) run the same oil throughout the whole bike just to make my life simpler!

I believe it is 20-50 in the engine and primary and there 75-90 in there tranny oil line in the trans, when you stop by I'll show you. I can order it for you at dealer cost as I do for some of my other friends if you want.

Thanks man, I'll be sure to swing by and check out the deal before I buy any oil... it'll be a while. She's only got 480 miles on 'er now. Prolly be due around 3000 or so...
