Huh? The gas doesn't stay in the hose when switching from one grade to another? The fuel from the pump valve to the nozzle is going to be whatever the previous customer selected. He selected 87 octane, thats whats going in your tank until the 91 flushes out the 87. When you are finished, the pump will be primed with the 91 you paid for. If that were not the case, there wouldn't be separate nozzles for the diesel. Try to buy premium from a pump that has a nozzle for each grade. Just as Diesel has a dedicated nozzle for diesel fuel only, I think premium should have dedicated nozzles for premium only. Only need one or two pumps to be equipted this way. Others could remain the same as now.

FWIW: Gas with eth cleans as you use it. We can only get eth mix in the Portland area. We also pay more to get it because it has a "won't you be thrilled to save the planet" tax added to it.
Makes Costco gas just as good as top tier for cleaning. Don't know how good it is for other factors such as consistent octane, stable blend, etc. If it's as good as the $1.50 polish sausages, it'll do.
I own a Texaco branded station good gas but I like to change after few filling to different premium brands of gasoline. Most of the cheap gas doesn't have the additives used by most of these premium brands then you only get what you paid for.
Yea I only use Shell, I like the 93 octane I noticed when I installed my cams the valves we almost new looking. I am from up north and notice that the Sunoco's there have 94 octane must be due to the elevation being higher here cause I cant seem to find it but this is a very good brand as well kept my rotary clean all through high school.
[quote=King Crimson;6829521]Funny...I don't see BP on the list. Probably because their oil is tainted with salt water.[/quote
For a retailer to be "Top Tier" all of the blends they sell must meet the higher standard. BP doesn't cut it. One blend that they do sell that is very good is Amoco Ultimate. That's the only grade they sell I'd buy.
