I have changed both and have found very little difference between the 2 as far as reception goes. Had the largest impact on CB, really no difference on FM
Changed to the shorty about 6 months back no change in reception on any band. Have you tried putting the whip back on again? Check for evidence of corrosion, broken antenna wire?
Replacing just the antenna should not have caused the all bands not to function. JMHO.
You replaced the AM/FM antenna. The XM antenna is a different antenna. Replacing the AM/FM antenna would have no effect on XM reception.
As indicated by a previous post, a shorter CB antenna is not going to work as well as a longer CB antenna. This, of course, assumes that the short CB antenna is SWR matched to the transmitter. A short CB antenna that is not SWR matched could destroy the CB transmitter. It would have no damaging effect on the CB receiver, but would not receive as well. In any case, longer (for both AM/FM and CB) is always better, and this applies to antennas as well as other things.
