A lot of folks complain about the temp gauge on uc's. That is because of the sensor location in the faring. Just splice and put on the yoke with double stick tape. 100% correct readings.
The headlight in the fairing keeps the sensor 10 to 15 degrees high.
That piece of s#it useless gauge shouldn't be there in the first place! Ya know what man...we pay a lot for these friggin' bikes and the MOCO knows damn well what should be there...HOW BOUT A F'N OIL TEMP GAUGE HARLEY DAVIDSON!!!!!!

I agree the temp and or oil PSI gauge would be a welcome feature. I just don't see H-D offering one as a stock item.
They most likely don't want the pubic to realize that the engines get as hot as they do, and don't want a million customers bending the ears off the dealerships service department with "what is wrong with my bike" "when the engine starts cold its got almost 35-40 psi, then drops to 20 at idle, then when I've gone out and rode a while the PSI drops to 4-5 PSI at idle and barley goes over 20 PSI when hot and cruizing? And only spikes to 30-38 PSI when hot and at WOT" "And is over 300* a normal temp for my oil when hot?"
That would put a BIG dent in a standard option of an OIL PSI and/or Temp gauges on your dash don't you think!
Wow! I didn't intend to bring such emotion to the surface. I just wanted to share how you can make what you do have, work. I feel a little bad that I do really love my ultra, warts and all.

No problem man, sorry I blew up!
Don't feel bad, you will find a lot of folk don't know any reason why H-D does or doesnt' do something, and some will light the road on fire about it.
Just one of MANY examples and short story...kinda reminds me of the "Softail Seat Bolt" issue that just rubbed me the wrong way a while ago probably because of the way I was brought up...I purchased a new 97 Heritage and was in the middle of chroming and customizing and these two large zinc plated, corroded bolts were staring me in the face...you know, the 2 bolts that secure the seat on "all" Softails...Well, they needed to be replaced...went to the dealer...30 friggin' bucks for 2 bolts and 2 washers!! Now why can't jerkoff H-D put these bolts on at the factory man???..because jerkoffs like me and nearly all Softail owners are going to go out and buy them...same thing with the piece of s#it clutch & brake levers and stock grips that get nasty after a few months!!..nearly all the bolts and fastners are cheap and zinc plated...Every year you see what was standard the previous year becomes optional the next...like the standard passenger hand rail last seen on the 05 Ultras is now an option...for $140.00!!! I guess that's why I keep all my bikes...When you buy um new now a days for 23k they're basically stripped and they run like dog s#it...It takes some time and money to get these H-D s looking & running right...and once tuned and tweaked they "STILL" run like s#it!!...I come from a biker family also...my brother rides, my father now 85 and still with "all" his marbles rode a 65 Pan and a Shovel in the older days when I was a kid and he can't stand Harley Davidson and what the company has become and what it does to it's customers these days...I tell him "unfortunately dad, we really don't have much of a choice these days". He totally disagrees! My 85 year old dad tells me to read some of Sonny's books and see what he thinks of H-D and it's motorcycles ...and I've read them all...I hang with and talk to a lot of the old timers and some of them won't even set foot in the dealerships today nor do the dealerships what them in there...If they need a part they head off to a swap meet and such...ah, I don't know man...guess I'm gettin' a little older and a little wiser myself...and so is Harley Davidson Motor Company...wiser bacause they're robbin' the eyes right outta our heads. If I had to do it all over again knowing what I know now...I'd build my own!!!
I'm 44 now and just got an 06 Ultra and have three others...This 06 will be the last HD I buy thank God...I have enough to last me till that last ride....
Sorry for the rant guys....It's just that God damn waste of time tempature gauge rubs me wrong as did them 2 bolts!!!
