My 09 EGC got so hot the other day that the oil smells burt. My dealer is coming to pick it up tomorrow. my question is: should I be concerned about value, ring, etc. problems. My oil pressure dropped and I didn't notice it until I felt the heat on my legs. I'm not sure what could be the problem. I don't want to have issues in the future because this bike over heated so bad now. Any advise from anyone who has had the same thing happen.
On the last 05 EGC I had I left homested, Fl after beng in the Keys. I fueled up in homestead and checked the oil the oil was fine. Half way across FL on hwy 41 I stopped and it seemed to be getting hot, so I checked the oil. I was 3 qts low. I was pushing it a bit going about 80mph. Don't know where the oil went, didn't happen again.
What were the circumstances under which this overheating occurred? Be more detailed. We may be able to give comment or at least learn from your experience for future reference...
got my 07 so hot it wouldnt make any power couldnt push it over 40, changed the oil added a tuner and all is good but i know the cause, stop ped in traffic for about 30 minutes in 95degree heat. with your rear cyl cutoff it shouldnt have gotten that hot unless u didnt have it activated.or u got another problem that caused it.
these bikes can take a lot of heat. Harley has been building air cooled engines for a long time. I dought if there is any damage.
I agree with hojones. If your worried , change the oil. You should be fine. The moco test these things in the desert in Arizona and put them through hell. You should be fine.
I've had my old bike so hot, it wouldn't shift, ran like crap and was scalding the inside of my legs. I was stuck in the parade for an hour at the Rot Rally in Austin Texas in well over 90 degree heat. I was finally able to park the bike. A couple of hours hanging out on 6th street, the bike cooled off and ran fine. I put over 45,000 miles on that bike and never had a problem of any kind with the motor. It even had the old style cam chain tensioners that others have had fail way earlier than that. It was running fantastic when I upgraded and was getting 50 mpg.
If you are not running it already, I would suggest a synthetic motor oil of your choice. Synthetic can handle the heat better and wont break down as fast as conventional or dyno oil.
