I don't even try to catch any of it. I just let it run into my drain pan and they spray it all off with carb cleaner. It does a good job of blowing all the oil off if you use the little straw that comes with the can of carb cleaner.

Search usually pays off. I was just looking at the filter oil catcher and thought why not make one. Then read a couple posts about the 1 liter bottle idea which came to mind as soon as I looked at the catcher on the HD site. $20.00? No thanks!!!! I will sell improvised plastic bottles to ya for $10.00.

I just cover the oil cooler with a good sized rag and wedge another one under the filter, and place an oil pan underneath the bike. Unscrew the filter and turn it rightside up to limit leakage. The rags and pan catch most of it. Not a 100% solution, but good enough...

I like the carb cleaner suggestion. Will have to try that next time...

I bought a plastic drip pan that is designed for the baggers and front filter bikes. Haven't tried it yet but it has great reviews. You can get one on line at JP cycles or Eglidegoodies when they get back up and running.

I have had some success placing/wrapping a plastic garbage bag underneath the filter. the problem is getting the bag out. On several occasions i have been able to slide it out cupping the oil in it with no oil drip. On other Oh Fug occasions I have not got hold of the corners on the bag properly and oil everywhere. I also had one of those special funnels - total waste of money

Ill let you in on the secret:

There is no secret. No matter how hard you try, your gonna have some cleanup. I have found punching a hold in the filter after you have drained the oil from the bike helps a bit, a little less gets spilled.

Don't waste your money on the various oil catch trays, a 2 liter bottle or even the flattened out box the filter comes in works just as well, which is to say not very.

Simple Green and a Rag. In the end a quick wipe is just as quick as messing with something to catch it.

On my last bike I had the expensive filter set up Harley had a few years back. You unscrewed the cap on the end and just replaced the element inside. That was easy to catch the oil but not worth $280.

Thought about getting one of those myself. Did they quit offering them? Was awfully spending just to avoid spilling oil.
