Not this guy. I don't get aching anything and I do 10,000 a year on my "long distance tourer".
All I get when I get use my lowers in the summertime is sweaty socks and boots.
I guess that is why I about never see an ultra without highway pegs. Hang your legs out to Blow dry that funky stuff.

Winter now... big difference.

I am a new UC Limited owner, and I plan to ride from Texas to Sturgis in August with my lowers on. Perhaps I will regret it, but I will soon find out!

Got an 08 Ultra. Lowers have never been off. Went to Sturgis in 08. Grand Canyon, New Mexico, Utah and Colorado in 09. Both trips in late July and early August. Going west again this year at the same time, with lowers ON once again.

As far as highway pegs go; lowers or no lowers, the change in position for folks with a 34" inseam is a welcome relief in any kind of weather!

Keep the lowers on. If you're cruising down the road, feel up on the highway pegs keeps your legs cool. If you're sitting in traffic, having them off isn't going to help a bit.

I remove only the doors from my lowers in the summer. You get extra cooling and if you get caught in the rain your boots stay dry.

I have done what ultrapacman does and it works really well.
I used to remove the lowers and remove the vents , and put the lowers back on.
You will pick up quite a bit more air between your legs and the cylinders this way.
Bug protection is about the same , and rain protection is almost as good too.
This year I looked at the vents and noticed that the first inch or so can be removed from the inside side of the vents.
This is where the holes are , I cut away all the plastic back to the main support after marking them with a white marker.
I cut the inside off nice and straight with a slight radius at the top so it looks right.
This way I don't have to remove the vents every year and reinstall them in the fall/winter.
Big difference in comfort with them cut back , and they retain most of their protection and ability to warm you when closed all the way.
Very worthwhile mod for me.

I live in North Texas, McKinney to be exact. We are riding to Amarillo on the first day, then onto Denver to meet friends on the second day, and then finally into Sturgis on the 3rd day.

well I just installed two jagg oil coolers on the bike and removed the lowers so they are gone until after sturgis when I will look at modifying them to work with the oil coolers. Bike is gonna undergo a significant motor build just after we get back. Thanks.
