Mine is in the shop, been there for a month and expect it back in two weeks. The shop I use says they have nine radios in for service. My screen went blank but the radio still worked. I've heardthat HD will be using a new manufacturer for 2012.
my 08 FLHX just went in for all new fairing brackets (6 months out of warrenty of course) and while it was in the radio quit.
Still has the screen, you cna change channels and play CD's and all - just no sound - none
real interested to hear if anyone finds out an easy fix to this one-----new radios are really expensive!

now ask me why I like my 97 Heritage Springer better!

The broken fairing brackets are the cause of most radio problems, both stock and aftermarket. With the brackets broken, alot of the load gets shifted to the radio and it endures way too much vibration. Iron Cross Audio has a vibration mod they put in all the radios they repair
Mine has a different problem. When Iturn off bike while I'm playing a CD, then when I want to restart the bike, it's switched to FM, instead of still being on CD. Not a major problem, but PITA, due to differing volumes/out of town getting static...
The HK is crap. The sound in my right speaker keeps going out and when I take the fairing off there is no sound at all. Somehow, eventually it comes back on. I'm hating it, can't stand to have it on at all.
Do after market stereos display the trouble codes when you have a problem with your bike or do you have to give up that function?
I'm on my 4th radio and I have had it!!! This time I called Iron Cross Audio and spoke with Tony, he told me that most of the time they are not fixing the radio correctly that they are just fixing what is wrong and not looking deeper into the problem. I asked him about after market units and he told me that HK radio is a good unit and that he can fix it and tell what the problem is and why this is happening. I really hope he knows what he talking about because he going to be fixing this radio for the next year if he can't fix it right the first time. I don't want to loose the CB or the intercom system even if I don"t use it. It should be going out to him on Monday or Tuesday. I hope he is right and can do it right if I have to I will bring him the bike.

Interesting....my radio likes to turn itself on after the bike has been parked overnight. When I park it the radio is off, the next day when I go out to ride and start the bike the radio comes on when I start it. Not a big deal, I just turn it off, but its annoying.
I had the bike in to the dealer for service and mentioned it to them, all I got was the head-turned confused dog look and they said they never heard of that. If that's the only problem I have I'll consider myself lucky.
My 2009 SG has had problems with the speakers. I am changing the head unit (HK is not a good unit IMO) to a Sony Marine grade. Also going with the Hertz 6.5" speakers and Titan amp. All from Biketronics.
There is one other thing that will cause a no sound problem other than the radio. If a speaker or speaker wire gets shorted, there is a circuit in the radio that shuts power down to the internal amplifier to keep from burning it up.
The radio will not produce sound until the short is resolved. A speaker that's going bad can short internally causing this and when it does, can cause real headaches finding the problem because in the beginning stages, the speaker will sometimes work and sometimes not.
The only way to check it is to unplug both of the speakers (or all 4 in an Ultra Classic) and take a known good speaker and plug it in. Switch the ignition off then on and if you get sound from the one speaker, that is the problem. Hope this helps. BTW, if you don't have an extra "known good" speaker lying around, unplug all the speakers and test one and then the other. Chances are that both or all 4 speakers are not bad.
